At week seven of pregnancy, your embryo is making some important connections!

About fetal development, In this week of pregnancy, the baby will start developing hair, nipple follicles as well as the digestive tract, eyelids and tongue. Your embryo has developed eyelid folds. Facial features are also observable. The eyes have a retina and lens.

Your baby’s major organs have all begun to form,  brain is developing rapidly, along with other parts of the body such as the pancreas, bronchi and intestines.
Your baby’s heart now has a left and right chamber, while the esophagus and trachea are shifting into separate tubes with the lungs positioned on both sides. The lungs are developing more and more everyday.  The mouth opening is formed, inner ear is being created.

Arm and leg buds begin to grow. Leg buds form and hands form as flat paddles on the arms. They’ll sprout the beginnings of paddle-like arms and feet this week. The navel string is being created.  You will start to see the little elbows and toes starting to take shape.  The baby’s nerves and muscles will start forming and the reflexes are starting to show.  The major muscle system is developed and the embryo is able to move.

By this week, your embryo’s umbilical cord, which will connect the two of you throughout your pregnancy, has fully formed.  The baby is now able to float around through the amniotic sac and the umbilical cord is starting to grow as well.
